Hi Mark,

I have an optimistic answer to your question and a pessimistic one as
well. The optimistic one (we're just starting our 4th year of our LSC)
is that our 5 districts will all continue to use the curricular
materials and that the refurbishment centers are in tact. All our
districts have committed to various "basic" PD offerings on a
fee-for-service basis--kit implementation trainings, and Instructional
Strategy Sessions such as Integration of Science and Literacy. In
addition, schools that have Critical Friends groups and site-based
teachers who are certified in the protocols will continue with that
powerful professional conversation. Through both our business/Agilent
Technologies and university/Colorado College partnerships we would
continue offering our field-based and lab-based content courses for
elementary teachers. Our folks we've scholarshipped to CC to get MAT
degrees in Integrated Natural Science will have moved into various
leadership positions in the 5 districts. Our principals who have
completed 90 hours with us will ensure that in their schools kit-based
science is taught and taught well. Our students have scored the
highest in the state on the 5th Science CSAP scheduled for 2006-2007.

The pessimistic answer is that, because of tight budgets and high
administrative turnover, our teachers will be using the science kits
with only the basic kit trainings. Emphasis will become even more
focused on literacy and math. The 5th CSAP will cover only factoids.

I'd give the optimistic answer a 70% chance of being reality!
