three fourths
|
When I heard Riba say "three fourths" I wrote "3/4 or 3 fourths?" I think that she is thinking about 3 of her fourths, which are groups of 4. She knew that "one half" of 6 was not 1 group of two, but doesn't seemed to have linked her understanding of "one half" to the notation "1/2". Will making that link help her to interpret "3/4" as 3 out of 4 groups? Or does she first need to develop an understanding of "one fourth" as 1 of 4 equal groups?
