subject: The example of one half
I found it interesting that Riba knew that i/2 of 6 was 3. I would
imagine she knew this from past experience sharing with friends (rather
than from experience with fractions). I imagine that is why this
question was posed by Deborah - in order to give Riba a frame of
reference. Yet it is fascinating that she can not hold on to this
knowledge as she attacks the question of 3/4. I think that she
believes that 3/4 represents a multiplication problem 3 x 4.
