subject: Superintendent as Sense-Maker
I liked your idea about the role of the superintedent in limiting the
number of initiatives. Doug Reeves talks about periodically looking at
all the initiatives and eliminating those that are not productive.
Another role is to make sense of how the many initiatives are
connected. I know teachers need this and so do many principals. They
can't see the connections, or the big pictures, it all appears to be
many disjointed efforts. I think the superintendent's role is to keep
telling (and showing with a model or diagram) how everything is
working together towards continuous improvement.
