A different angle on competing initiatives
|
The many messages in response to this topic are very interesting, but there's another angle I'd like to ask about, from anyone who has insight, and that has to do with the maintenance of a culture of support for teachers' learning, and teacher leaders' learning. It is widely accepted that the many kinds of learning that teachers need to do in changing their pedagogy requires time and opportunity for reflection. This is often best facilitated when there are people who facilitate, support, encourage this kind of thinking and discussion. This translates into SPACE in the schedule, PEOPLE like teacher leaders or department chairs or somebody to help keep the process rolling -- and SPACE and PEOPLE translate into MONEY. From an administrative point of view, all of these are reflective of a VISION. So how successful have your districts been in negotiating to preserve this vision, even when new "competing initiatives" must be accomodated?
