Credibility between teachers and teacher leaders
|
I agree that being in the classroom has a tremendous impact on establishing a sense of trust and credibility with your peers. When I left the classroom to become a Teacher on Special Asignment for my district's science department, I found myself having to convince my peers about my classroom "knowledge" as I provided professional development. I have always addressed participants as my peers, as they are. I always give a bit of my background and experiences. The fact that I have been in the classroom for 24 yrs., worked in rural, suburb, and urban settings, worked with K-8 students with a wide range of strenghts and needs.
As I do my professional development and classroom connections, I try to acknowledge the the strenghts and values of participants. They always appreciate being recognized for their efforts. This kind of interaction allows for a rapport to develop allowing for credibility.
