Forthcoming test

We too have started working with 4th and 5th grade teachers to prepare them for the 5th grade science assessment that will become part of STAR. We have recruited a 5th grade teacher from every k-6 site to serve as a point of contact for their school. We conducted a needs assessment at the beginning in order to make sessions meaningful for the participants.
To facilitate instruction, we asked teachers to analyze standards-based adopted curriculum to see if in fact standards are being met. Teachers found that even though publishers identified specific standard instruction, in some cases this was not so, therefore, strategies were given on how to make connections between the instructional materials, standards, and their delivery in a way that would be comprehensible to them as well as the student.
Teachers are also aware of the importance of working with their 4th grade peers in planning out their science instruction in order to make conceptual ties to meet both 4th & 5th grade standards
