The No Child Left Behind legislation has called for increased
accountability across the content areas. Due to the pressures of high
stakes testing within many states to increase language arts and math
test scores, science has become optionalized. It has then become the
role of teacher leaders to set an example and maintain a strong presence
at their sites for the teaching of science through language arts and
math connections. This forum will serve as a platform for these teacher
leaders to discuss and share strategies on how they have overcome the
emphasis on language arts and mathematics, while continuing to
incorporate science as part of their daily instruction.
