subject: Legacies --nicely articulated!
John... this is a nice articulation of what I was trying to get at when
I suggested that LSCs might well leave behind residues and assets that
would have enduring value. I especially like the way you have deepened
the notion of "curriculum".

By the way curriculum is Latin for the "course to be run"... So the
deeper sense of curriculum I think can be found the shared vision and
expectations of "the course to be run" by students. That is,
curriculum can be written down as in a curriculum document, but it also
resides in the collective vision and set of shared expectations of all
those in the district who shape the nature and content of the learning
experiences for students. And, I think, you are saying that the
"curriculum" that exists inside of teachers, administrators, and
students has been shaped by the experience of the LSC... You also point
out that of course the district curriculum is never set and never
static...it is always moving and evolving to correspond with changing
perceptions of what is needed, and what is effective. And the LSCs
have changed those perceptions...Hence, the ways in which curriculum
evolve will no doubt reflect the influence of the LSC... Thus, it might
be a better measure of the LSC not to look at what the current program
is...but rather to look at the criteria and values that people bring to
the setting of the future curriculum... ??????
