Things that stay and things that change
|
Your message makes me think that there are two types of residues that are left by the work of an LSC. One kind resides in people -- in the teachers, in the administrators, in the students etc... A kind of experiential shift and learning... But there is another kind that is part of the policies and programs of a district. And this later kind is indeed very vulnerable to shifts in priorities, values, visions etc... Indeed, as we are seeing now, it is sometimes seen as important for a new administration to purge the ideas and the work of the old one - a deliberate non sustainability... So I agree with you that all too often we do not see, or do not admit, that the changes we try to put in place, are the very changes that someone else, a new administration, for example, want to eliminate... One man's meat is another man's poision etc... But there are legacies left in people, in practice and in vision etc... Perhaps this is where the real contribution is made. What do you think?
