A Different Kind of Learning

Hi Deborah,
I really enjoyed Part II of your keynote--most likely because your points and position are ones with which I totally agree and have tried to express in some of my own writing over the years. In my work with K-6 science teachers I have found it very useful to use classroom vignettes/snapshots of students explaining and discussing their ideas (both valid and invalid) as "straw men" to get teachers to analyze the underlying science. The strategy is successful because teachers see the immediate relevance of the content and they fell "safe" because they don't have to admit to their own lack of understanding.
Thanks for your thoughtful presentation. Go Hawks!!
