Bio: Patricia Maruca

Patricia Maruca

Dr. Maruca is in her second year as Superintendent of the Holtville Unified School. Her prior administrative experience includes 11 years as elementary school principal and 2 years as coordinator of bilingual and migrant education. Dr. Maruca has a strong background in school reform and systemic change. She has implemented the Accelerated Schools model developed by Hank Levins and has done extensive work with the research of Gene Hall and Michael Fullan. The emphasis of much of her school reform efforts includes parental involvement. Dr. Maruca's doctoral dissertation looked at the impact of parental involvement on Mexican, LEP students. She stresses the teaching of science and mathematics as a positive and successful way to engage parents.
