Project Director role
|
Royce,
The best support I have had for this role has been the connections made with PD's of other LSC's. LSC-net has aided this tremendously, but I think that when NSF held annual meetings for the PD's.... that really helped us to feel like a group. After spending 2-3 days together in DC it was only natural to follow up with email or phone calls and then know who these folks were made the NET so helpful, LSC-net in posting the work of projects along the way, and getting Joni and Brian's regular prompts to update us has always reminded me to check this source for guidance and new information.
As far as budgets, I have called NSF finscal office on several occasions when I needed help. They have been very supportive of my queries. It is sometimes messy to figure out budgets mostly because we are juggling 3=- different fiscal years ! Our NSF is May -April 30, our disirtct July 1- June 31 and Horizona evaulation year Aug 31 Sept 1 and of course the calendar year. As a result we have had to complete multiple versions of some paperwork our district requires. I've also found that our distirit finance office is not used to towrking with NSF, so I have had to mediate some of the discussions. I cannot begin to image the headaches with multiple districts ... which may be the case for you in VIPS. .The other person that has been a great resource is our project evluator....Kathy Stiles. She is always on call and has provided guidance for dozens of things that were new to us. I'm not really sure what kind of comments you are looking for here, so perhaps I'll stop for now and ask you to clarify what it is that would be helpful for you. Gail
