subject: more on content, standards
Thanks for your comments. Your last point is right on. The deveopers
of our project had lots of reasons to provide content courses. The
teachers however did not understand why they were in these courses. In
some ways our state standards did provide a little bit of help. The
standards have both an algebra and geometry strand. By reading the
standards, teachers can see how algebraic concepts are actually
conceptualized in the primary grades. I like to believe that this
helped the teachers from a purpose in their own mind for taking the
classes. I'm not sure though; so, I will ask some of my colleagues who
actually taught the content classes to comment further on this.
