What are the incentives to study mathematics?
|
On one hand, I agree that teachers have to be part of anything having to do with their learning, and learning mathematics for teaching is no exception. However, on the other hand, learners (and adults are no exception) only can name some of what they need to learn. I am sure I cannot tell you fully what it would help me to know better. I think there is an equally important question about how we create credibility and inspire a sense that PD contains important and valid experiences. I can easily understand that working on "higher" mathematics concepts would not convince most teachers. The question we face is not only how to involve teachers in figuring out what to work on, but how to talk with each other--as teachers of teachers -- how to figure that out, and how to build PD that is convincing and credible.
