subject: back to data
Our goal is to have teachers involved in the following conversation
both in collegial groups and independently.

In order to determine what I as a teacher need to learn, I need to look
at data. What are my students learning? What are they not learning?
What relationships exist between my teaching and their learning? What
teaching behaviors or knowledge do I need to acquire in order to help
my students get to place X on this particular data indicator?

One challenge is selecting or creating assessment tools that give us
data that will be useful in this converstaion. Currently we look at a
lot of student work samples in collaborative meetings, but we need to
be a little more systematic about it to really target and monitor
student growth over the year.

Once we have identified where students need to go, the other challenge
is getting teachers to really acknowledge what they need to be doing
in relation to the student goals. It requires a lot of modeling for
the teachers of good teaching practices, and it requires classroom
support as teachers try to adopt these practices themselves.
